Jami Gertz discussed her new comedy The Neighbors, her career and the choices that shaped her path through Hollywood in an interview with The Forward.

Gertz talked about the unusual premise of the ABC sitcom and reflected on earlier career opportunities, including the role of Rachel Green on Friends, which she said she turned down.

Jami Gertz returned to series television as Debbie Weaver, the mother at the center of ABC’s new science-fiction comedy The Neighbors.

The series premiered September 26, 2012, and followed the Weavers after they moved into a gated community populated by extraterrestrials. Gertz remained with the series for its full two-season, 44-episode run.
